Kanan Edward Mills
March 1991-June 2018
Kanan Edward Mills entered this world on March 5, 1991 to his adoring parents Herb Mills and Audrey Sly. He spent the early years of his childhood in Denver, Colorado before moving to Montrose in 1997. He grew up alongside his best friend and younger brother, Aaron Mills and created many friendships and bonds over the years and through school. He graduated from Montrose High School in 2009.
Kanan had a huge heart and was caring and compassionate towards others. He never missed an opportunity to hold the door open for somebody, always said please and thank you and respected everybody he encountered. He could enter a room and brighten it with his smile, his attitude, or just his presence. He had “it.”
Kanan was not only funny and carefree, but he was very intelligent. A deep thinker, wanting to know every reason for every thought. He continuously researched and educated himself on various topics and could hold a conversation with anybody about anything, at any time. He enjoyed reading-especially Harry Potter, playing disc golf, snowboarding in the mountains of Colorado, playing hockey and recently fell in the love with the game of golf.
In the last few years, Kanan made some incredible bonds with some incredible people. He leaves behind so many wonderful memories and heavy hearts. He was a dreamer. He was a leader. He had followers. We’ve learned over the past week just how strong he was. He made friends so easily and was true to each and every one of them. He supported them, guided them and made them happy. He made us happy.
Kanan has earned his angel wings and he will never be forgotten. He did not die on his terms. He did not want to leave us. He loved us. He will continue to love us. He achieved his goal of making us proud. Our lives will never be the same.
He leaves behind many friends, family, aunts and uncles, cousins and acquaintances. His family will be here to carry on his memory. His mother Audrey Sly and Kevin Huddle, his brother Aaron Mills, His dad Herb Mills and Jamie Carver, one step brother, Kai Hardin, grandparents Edward & Shirley Sly and Tom & Ann Mills and countless others.
Services for Kanan will be held Saturday, June 30th at 2:00 PM at Crippin Funeral Home.
While the family appreciates the offer of donations and flowers, they only ask that you spend time with your children, your family and your friends. Take a walk with your loved ones and make a toast to enduring friendships, lifelong and beyond. Be there to listen to someone when they reach out. Have compassion. That is what Kanan would wish for.
