Willis (Bert) was born at Nitro, West Virginia, January 2, 1931 to Maurine Elouise Cheek and Willis Albert Jones. He attended High Point grade school, Webster County, MO; Rogersville (MO) High School graduating in 1949; Drury College, Springfield, MO. graduating with an AB, 1955; Central Baptist Theological Seminary, BD, 1960 and Southern Bible Seminary, ThD, 1977
He was united in marriage on June 4, 1954 to Joanne Elaine McBride. They were married in the Central Baptist Seminary Chapel by C.R. McBride. Joanne’s father and Bert’s major professor. Their family consists of four children. Thomas Keith, Lucinda Kay (Andresen), Timothy Craig and Matthew Kirk, and fourteen grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren.
Willis was ordained at Harmony Baptist Church, Greene County, MO on May 24, 1953. He served pastorates in Missouri, Colorado, Wyoming, and Nebraska. His last pastorate was First Baptist Church in Montrose. He has taught Bible and Theology for Rockmont College Montrose Division for years. For the last several years he has taught a Bible study home group of senior adults. He has maintained a web-page Charisma-Ministry.org for several years in retirement.
Bert’s hobbies are Clock-making and fishing (spinning, trolling and fly, including fly-tying) Some of his joys are Family, hiking, snowshoeing, skiing and jeeping in the San Juan Mountains, river rafting on the Gunnison River, and most of all teaching the Bible and attending Worship Services.
Bert passed away Sunday, October 22, 2017. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 27, 2017 at 3:30 P.M. at Crippin Funeral Home Chapel. The service will conclude at the chapel. Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory in Montrose is assisting the family.
