William S. Jackson

August 5, 1940 — December 31, 2017

Mr. William S. Jackson

William “Bill” Snyder Jackson, 77, died Sunday, December 31st, 2017 at his home in Montrose, with his wife and family.
Born on August 5th, 1940 in Mountain Lakes, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Rodger Jackson and Kathryn Snyder Jackson. Bill was a graduate of Middlebury College and the University of Colorado Law School. He served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army from 1963-1965.
Bill had a varied career in law over the years, working as a private attorney, a Public Defender, a Deputy District Attorney, and as a probation officer for the Drug Court program in Montrose County. He had a passion for the law and the pursuit of justice throughout his career, and found the work he did for the Drug Court to be most rewarding.
He moved to Montrose to take advantage of all that the Western Slope offered – from fishing to hunting to hiking, Bill was an avid outdoorsman. He had recently completed a five-month trip to Alaska with his wife Carol to fish for salmon and gather new material for his epic tales he loved sharing with everyone he met.
Bill was a passionate, self-taught bluegrass musician, first tackling learning the banjo, then moving onto the guitar which kept his family entertained for years. He attended many jam sessions in Montrose, Hotchkiss and Olathe and enjoyed learning to play with talented musicians all over the valley.
He also was a fan of the San Francisco Giants and New York Giants. He loved to recall tales of visiting the Polo Grounds as a youth and later attending the World Series to see the Giants win. Throughout his life, he played a variety of sports including basketball, baseball, football, and cycling. Over the years he enjoyed attending sporting events all over the country with his family and friends.
Bill is survived by his wife of 42 years, Carol Intlekofer Jackson; children, William Faust Jackson of Arvada, CO; Eric Michael Breidel and his wife Shawna of Montrose, CO and Alexis Kathryn Larsen and her husband Kiley of Los Angeles, CA; grandson Kelby Lee Breidel and his nephews Stephen Edgcombe, David Edgcombe, and Robert J. Edgcombe. He was preceded in death by his sister Anne Jackson Edgcombe and her husband Robert E. Edgcombe of Grand Blanc, MI.
