William Arthur Herrera, lifetime Montrose resident took the Lord’s hand when he called him home on May 13, 2015 at the age of 89. William was born July 29, 1925 to Matt and Beatrice (Nelson) Herrera in Montrose. He served his country in the United States Navy, during WWII on the U.S.S. Boston. Following his discharge, William married Rose Ella Madrid on November 29, 1947. She preceded him in death on May 27, 2008. From this union, were two children, Ron and Elaine.
William enjoyed the outdoors and going fishing. He cherished time with family, and his grandchildren were so very special to him. He will be greatly missed by his family.
Surviving family members include his daughter, Elaine Gallegos of Montrose; brother Dareld (Diane) Herrera of Denver; sisters Katherine (Kurt) Weythman of Grand Junction, Marie (Sam) Rinehart of Armuchee, Georgia; grandchildren, Aaron, Kevin & wife Sara, Keith and wife Courtney and Amanda; great-grandchildren, Cassandra, Tori, Ariana, Brea Marie, of Denver, Colorado; Caley, Peyton, Creed “Buddy” of Montrose.
William was also preceded in death by his wife Rose, and son Ron, brother John; sisters Marguerite, Ethel, Lucille, Mardel, Virginia and son-in-law, Rudy Gallegos.
A Memorial Service in celebration of William’s life will be held on Monday, May 18, 2015 at 10:00 am at Crippin Funeral Home Chapel, with Edward Williamson, Hospice Chaplin officiating. The service will conclude at the Chapel and a private family inurnment will take place at Valley Lawn Cemetery, south of Montrose where he will be laid to rest. Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory, Montrose, Colorado is assisting the family.
