Wayne J Thompson

Wayne J. Thompson , age 92, of Montrose, Colorado died Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at Montrose Memorial Hospital, and the last of his large family.  Wayne was born April 27, 1923 to Wayne and Anna Bell (Hicks) Thompson Marceline, Missouri.  There he spent his childhood and graduated high school in Keytsville, Missouri.  He served his country in the United States Navy from August 1941 to September 1945 and served on board the USS Hornet , which was sunk in the Battle of Midway during WWII and he was on board when Dolittle’s Raiders took off to bomb Tokyo.  Wayne married Henrietta Engle on January 16, 1943 in Boston, Massachusetts, and recently celebrating 73 years of marriage. At a very young age, Wayne was called to the Ministry and served over 50 years sharing his knowledge of God and his Savior in comforting love, and nurture to his congregation.

Surviving family member include his wife Henrietta of the family home in Montrose; son Larry Thompson of Denver; daughters Becky (Dan) Best of Wilmington, North Carolina, Pat (Kim) Livensparger of Carmel, California, Sherry (Dan) Trujillo of Montrose, Cindy (Rick) Ditch of Denver; 12 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.  Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Jeff Thompson, ;and several brothers and sisters.

A Funeral Service and Celebration of Wayne’s life will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 10:00 am at Rosemont Baptist Church.  A Military Graveside service will follow the service at Grand View Cemetery, West of Montrose.    In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Rosemont Baptist for Annie Armstrong Home Missions.  Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory in Montrose, is assisting the family.
