Sheriff Warren L. Waterman
March 31, 1942 ~ January 8, 2017
Warren L. Waterman, age 74, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 8, 2017, after an eighteen month battle with cancer. Warren died peacefully, at home, and in the presence of his family.
Warren was born on March 31, 1942 in Telluride, Colorado, to Clyde O. and Elvira N. (Nordgren) Waterman. Warren received his education in Montrose, Colorado, graduating with the class of 1960. After serving in the United States Navy from November 1961 to March 1966, Warren worked for the Bureau of Reclamation, before his career in law enforcement. Warren served as a police officer for the Montrose Police Department from 1968 – 1971. He then served on the Montrose Sheriff’s Department from 1971 – 1998. In 1999, Warren was elected Montrose County Sheriff, and served in that capacity until his retirement in 2007. Finding retirement boring, Warren went to work for Ouray County, in Courthouse Security (2009 – 2017), aka; Tour Guide and Story Teller. It couldn’t have been a more perfect job for this John Wayne Super Fan.
Warren is survived by his wife of 36 years; Deborah (Debbie) Waterman, daughters; Sadie Waterman of Montrose, Candi (Dorn) Leis (Rob) of Alberta, Canada; Sons, Chance Waterman and Adam Dorn, both of Montrose; Nephew, Sean Hale of Ridgway, CO. Grandchildren include; Landon Dorn, Shantelle Collman, Jager and True Waterman, Bella Jasmine, and Jett Filiatrault, Maverick Leis, Chole and Andric Sanchez, Tucker and Aeden Hall, and his best buddy Timmy (family pet).
Warren was preceded in death by his parents Clyde and Elvira Waterman, Sister, Lois Hale, Sister-in-law, Cindy L. Rowan, and Nephew, Michael Roy Adams.
There will be a Celebration of Life on Monday, January 16, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Chapel in Montrose, Colorado. Crippin Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family with the arrangements.
