Ted Hermanns passed away peacefully on January 7, 2016 at HopeWest Hospice Care Center in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Ted was born March 14, 1932 to Oliver and Alice (Lindsay) Hermanns in Grand Junction.  He was raised in Grand Junction, attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School and graduated from Grand Junction High School.  He attended Mesa Junior College, served two years in the U.S. Army and completed his education at Colorado University pursuing a career in engineering.  He received his professional Engineering and Land Surveyor registrations in 1964.  He worked for the U.S. Bureau of Public Roads before moving to Montrose in 1966 to start his business, Mesa Engineering and Surveying and Mesa Structural Design, retiring in 2010.

He was previously married to Bonnie Harris.  They had three children, Monica, Linda and Michael.  He married Cathy Capone in 1972 in Montrose.  They have shared 43 good years together.

Ted served on the board for Tri-County Water Conservancy District for 30 years, Colorado Water Resources and Power Development Conservancy District, Montrose City Council and was Mayor of Montrose in 1982.  He was a member of American Water Works, Colorado Water Congress, American Society of Civil Engineers, Aircraft Owners and pilots Association, Montrose Rotary Club, and Montrose Elks Club.  He was active in OTA Baseball and Pop Warner Football as a coach for several years.  He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.

Ted lived life to the fullest with family and friends enjoying snow skiing, water skiing, boating, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, ATV rides, cabin time, flying, scuba diving, traveling, and woodturning.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Phil, and son Michael. Ted is survived by his wife Cathy; daughter Monica Heckethorn of Vernal, Utah; daughter Linda Hermanns (Larry Brach) of Mack, Colorado; son-in-law Philipp (Gwendy) Heckethorn of Baker, Nevada, chosen daughter Teri (Dave) Allen of Oakdale, California; brother Paul Lindsay of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; sister Trish Hermanns of Grand Junction, Colorado; brother Marvin (Billie) Hermanns of Cortez, Colorado; mother-in-law Ann Capone and sister-in-law Dona Capone of Montrose; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces as well as those who chose him as their Uncle Ted, and many special friends.

Ted was an incredibly amazing man with a positive attitude and keen sense of humor who inspired others to appreciate and enjoy God’s gift of life.  “He lived and laughed and loved and left.  And the world will never be the same.”… James Joyce

A Funeral Mass in celebration of Ted’s life will be Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at 10:00 am at St. Mary Catholic Church.  Rite of Committal will follow the mass at Cedar Cemetery with a luncheon reception to follow at the Montrose Elk’s Lodge. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Hospice, 3090 North 12th Street, Grand Junction, Colorado 81506.  Crippin Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family.
