Services are scheduled at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Montrose United Methodist Church for Sue P. McCulloch of Montrose, formerly a longtime resident of Ouray. Steve Reinhard will officiate. A reception will follow in Baldridge Hall.  A private interment prior to the funeral is scheduled for the family at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Ouray, Colorado.

McCulloch was born Nov. 15, 1936, in Ava, Mo., daughter of John and Mildred Phelps. She died Sunday in her home in Montrose, following a two-year battle with cancer. She was 78.

She was a teacher at Ouray Schools from 1970 to 1976, where she taught high school and junior high English and math. She also was the forensic speech coach and directed Junior-Senior plays and contest plays.

McCulloch’s career in teaching spanned 37 years. She was a college professor in Gunnison and Rangely, and she taught high school math and English in the Texas towns of Ingram and Del Rio.

She is survived by her husband, Bob McCulloch, of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, John and Lori McCulloch of Abilene, Texas; four grandchildren, Caitlin, Heidi and John Ross McCulloch of Abilene, and Emily Cargile of Hobbs; two great-grandchildren, Mae Williams of Abilene and Willow Cargile of Hobbs; and six nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; one brother, John Elwood Phelps of Dallas; and one sister, Eva Nell Phelps of Mountain Grove, Mo.

McCulloch, who for many years attended First United Presbyterian Church in Ouray, was a member of Montrose United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Ouray County Historical Society.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose & Crematory, Montrose, Colorado.
