Roylynn Marlene Marr Froman was born March 6, 1936 in Cortez, Colorado to parents Graham W. and Dorthy A. Marr. She passed peacefully in the care of her family January 12, 2015 in Montrose, Colorado.
Roylynn, affectionately known as Sissie, Roylie, or Tad was 2 years old when she lost her father to an accident. She and her sister Dorthy were being raised by their mother when she met Stanley A. Leavell. They married and four more girls were born into the family.
They lived in Rico and Dolores when Roylynn was young. She loved the mountains. At a young age, her love of children was born. She was always babysitting for her neighbors, or taking care of her younger sisters…..making sure they always had white polished shoes and ironed dresses. Roylynn attended high school in Dolores where she was a cheerleader; graduating in 1953.
Roylynn married Frank Green in 1954. They had two children, Darwin and Douglas, divorcing in 1956. She later married Billy Froman in 1958 and Patricia, Britt, Mark, and Kaye joined the family. They divorced in 1969. Roylynn spent a lifetime working two or three jobs to support the family. They all grew to know and appreciate the work ethic of their mother.
Roylynn worked at the Cortez Elk’s Club for years where she met and was friends with many. She worked for the Farmer’s Home Administration in Cortez where she was exceedingly proud of writing procedure policy for them. She later moved to Alamosa, Canyon City and then to Montrose working for the Rural Housing Development, retiring in 2006 after 33 years of civil service.
Roylynn is preceded in death by her father, Graham, mother Dorthy and dad Stanley, along with her sisters, Dorthy A. Kruse and Betty Ebert.
She is survived by her six children….Darwin and (Vadas) of Hayden, Colorado, Doug (Janie) of Hobbs, New Mexico, Patricia and (Eldon) Stamps of North Pole, Alaska, Britt and (Ruth) Froman of Craig, Colorado, Mark and (Rhonda) Froman of Casper, Wyoming and Kaye Halverson of North Pole, Alaska. Ebert of Montrose, and sisters Stanna and (DJ) Wilson of Cortez, Beverly and (Spencer) Wolf of Page, Arizona and Barbara (Craig) Wolf of Dolores, sister in Heart Dalzoe Mace of Pleasant View, and numerous nieces and nephews survive Roylynn.
Honoring Roylynn’s wishes, cremation has taken place and her ashes will be spread near Rico where some of her fondest memories were made. Arrangements are under the care of Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory, Montrose, Colorado.
