Roy E Young, age 93, of Montrose a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother died Saturday January 30, 2016 at Valley Manor Care Center.
Roy Young, the son of Willis and Mae (Kimsey) was born July 26, 1922, in Hesperus Colorado where he was raised, received his education and grew to adulthood.
On March 23, 1943 Roy was united in marriage to Margaret Fedrizzi in Aztec, N.M. Roy and Margaret were blessed to share 62 years of marriage before Margaret’s death in 2005.
Roy proudly served in the United States Army in the 10th Mountain Division as a mule skinner. Which brought arterial and supplies to the front lines in the Italian Alps. At the end of the war he also served at Fort Leavenworth in Kansas guarding POW’s.
After the war Roy returned to Silverton and worked as a hard rock miner for 42 years. Roy worked at the Idarado and the Standard Metals Mine. He later transferred to the Mill and worked there until he retired January 11, 1985.
Roy enjoyed fishing, hunting, and horseback pack trips. In his later years Roy’s true enjoyment was his great grandchildren. He had a continuous supply of M&M’s and all little kids loved him.
Roy is survived by his son Gary and wife Kay, daughter Gail and husband John Zarkis. Grandchildren Carol Carnie, Kristie Kennedy, John Paul Zarkis, Jamie Zarkis, Wesley Young, Becky Scriffiny and also 13 great grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister Norma Yeager of Durango, and one brother Paul Young of Arkansas, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Roy is preceded in death by his parents Willis and Mae Young, wife Margaret Young, brothers, George, Earl, Willis, Leo, and sisters Mildred, Marge, and Maxine.
A Funeral Service in honor of Roy will be held Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel in Montrose, burial with Military Honors will follow at Grand View Cemetery, west of Montrose.
Memorial Contributions are asked to be made to the Silverton Hillside Cemetery PO Box 154 Silverton, CO 81433. Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory, in Montrose is assisting the family.
