Rodrick Cecil Sell

Rodrick Cecil Sell was born February 18,1938 in Lockerby, Utah to Frank and Ruth Sell. Rod has five siblings Tom Sell, Knollie Sell, Frances Lacky, Velma Aerts, and Teresa Jeanne Vigil.
Rod spent his early years in Ucola, Utah where he and his brothers had to haul water uphill from the creek for their mother. Rod’s brother Tom would often con Rod into doing his share of the chores.
Later the family moved to Nucla where Rod graduated from Nucla High School on May 22, 1956. Rod joined the Navy January 9, 1962 and served as a Machinist until his discharge on January 9, 1964. Rod came back to Nucla and married this marriage ended in divorce.
He then met Shirley Carver and they married April 28, 1967. Shirley had one son Roger Carver whom Rod helped raise. Rod said that when he first met Shirley, she was a cashier at Nucla Mercantile. He said that Shirley was very popular, and people would wait in line just to have their groceries checked out by her. Shirley passed away March 30, 2008, in the home that she and Rod built together. Rod spent the remainder of his life with his partner Donna Nygren.
Rod passed on March 29,2022 in the home that he had built, which was what he wanted.
Rod is preceded in death by his spouse Shirley Sell, his parents Frank and Ruth Sell, Brothers Tom Sell and Knollie Sell, Sister Frances Lacky and niece Ruth Duggan.
Rod is survived by his son Roger (Tina) Carver, Grandsons Jason (Katrina) Carver, Jacob Carver, Kyle (Kelia) Carver Zachary Carver, Great grandchildren Ryder Carver, Trenadi Carver, Harper Carver. Sisters Velma (Bob) Aerts, Teresa Jeanne (Clarence) Vigil, 16 nieces and nephews 18 great grand nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on April 23,2022 at 11:00 am at Nucla Cemetery. Crippin Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. 970-249-2121
