Robert Lawrence Mardock

Robert Lawrence Mardock, died January 9, 2016 at Montrose Memorial Hospital. Robert was born September 5, 1927 to Lawrence Ivan and Lela (Rash) Mardock in Wichita, Kansas. He spent his childhood and received his education in Wichita, and graduating high school. At the age of 19, Robert served his country in the United States Army near the end of WWII in Japan for one year, and honorably discharged in 1947. He later entered The National Guard and was called back to serve from 1962 to 1963 as a physician. Robert married Mary McCurry on May 12, 1951 in Wichita. Robert went on to Friends University in Wichita, Kansas, then to Kansas University Medical Center.
At the age of 24, Robert married Mary McCurry on May 12, 1951 in Wichita. The family moved from Wichita to Ouray Colorado in 1957 spending one year and working with the Ouray Hospital, before Robert returned to school with his family to the University of Utah, for his degree in Anesthesiology. Robert then relocated to Houston, where Robert and his family spent the next 30 years in his practice. Upon retirement, Robert and wife Mary moved to Ouray, where they made their home for the last 25 years until Robert’s time of death.
Robert was a member of the Church of The San Juans, in Ridgway; a Mason and a loving husband, father and grandfather and loved spending time with his family. They spent quality time in the outdoors, camping fishing and hunting and traveling. He will be greatly missed by his family. Robert enjoyed sailing and more than once, he sailed from Houston to Vera Cruz, Mexico.
Surviving family members include his wife, Mary, of Ridgway; children, Robert (Linda) Mardock of Montrose; Marvin (Denise) Mardock of Austin, Mark (Suzanne) Mardock of Orange County, California, Mary (Jim) Robinson of Moscow, Idaho, and Stephanie (Jack) Donaho of Houston; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his son, Stephan Mardock; his sister Judy and her husband Don Lavy. Cremation has taken place and inurnment will take place at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Ouray, Colorado with a celebration of life to take place in July with a family gathering.
