Robert “Bob” Bruce Campbell, 72, was born on May 1, 1952, in Denver, Colorado to John and Letha (Callender) Campbell. He went to join them in “The Final Frontier,” peacefully surrounded by the rest of the family on March 22, 2025, at Montrose Regional Hospital from complications of COPD. He grew up in Arvada, Colorado where he learned the value of working as a team in the family drugstore business owned by his pharmacist father and his mother the bookkeeper. His first job was delivering prescriptions to homebound customers and running errands for the business. He attended Arvada High School and joined the Navy during the Vietnam era. He served aboard the USS Oriskany as a radar operator and supply specialist. He experienced some fun times despite the stress of the wartime action. He experienced living in Subic Bay in the Philippines and traveled to the Equator and other surrounding countries during his time of service. After his military service, he worked in many other businesses such as an insurance photography, a security guard and used his carpentry skills to remodel homes and as a handyman.
Bob married later in life after meeting his soulmate, Lauretta Lowell, upon meeting her at the Delta Library. They married in 1993 on a warm summer evening following the Sunday church service in a private ceremony at Montrose First Assembly of God. The two experienced many happy years of travel and shared their love of God, nature, astronomy, and highly intellectual conversations. Sadly, Lauretta succumbed to Covid during the pandemic.
Special thanks to his best friend and cousin, Jay Shaffer, who called into the ICU and was able to speak to him via Facetime and brought him a final rally and happy moment for us all. Thank you to the rest of our cousins for their condolences as well and to the wonderful caring hospital and nursing home staff.
Bob loved music and was an accomplished Classical Guitarist and dreamed about playing in a Rock band someday. He and the residents at the senior apartments in Delta often gathered in the gazabo to jam to their favorite tunes. Most recently, Bob entertained the staff and fellow residents at the Elk Ridge Healthcare home with his fascinating stories of history and trivia. His love of astronomy and the series, “Star Strek,” were some of his favorite topics.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Letha Campbell, wife Lauretta Lowell, sister, Carol Stolns-Ash, niece, Danielle Stolns-Barbee and brother-in-law, Kenneth Brian Klein. He is survived by sister, Margaret “Peggy” (Elmer) Spencer-Grose, brother, William “Bill” (Lisa) Campbell, sister, Joni Klein and brother- in-law, Paul Ash. He is also left behind, aunts, uncles, and cousins, 19 nieces and nephews as well as many great -nieces and nephews in his big happy family.
