Richard Steven Mayer

November 12, 1963 — November 6, 2023

On November 6th, 2023, Richard Steven Mayer joined his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Rick was born in Woodbury, New Jersey on August 12th, 1963, to William Mayer and Charlotte Witts.  Rick spent his early years in New Jersey with his parents and later moved to Saguache, Colorado during the mid 1970’s.  In 1980, Rick moved to Montrose Colorado, the place he called home for the remainder of his life. During his high school years, Rick joined the family of Tom and Myrna Thorp and through that became a big brother to Tim, Kendra, Toby, and Kori.

Rick graduated from Montrose High School in 1982.  He married Tina Ergott in the spring of 1988 and from that union, Joshua, and Sara Mayer, were born.  Rick worked as the meat department manager at City Market for almost 18 years.  Rick was the kind of person who never met a stranger, and this served him well in that job. In 2002, Rick married the love of his life, Duber Diaz, and Givoanni Mayer became his third child!

In 2007, Rick took a position with the Montrose County Sheriff’s Office.  He worked as a corrections deputy and later in the courts.  His heart for people and his love of God serve him well in that role.

Rick was a devout Christian and follower of Christ and a longtime member of Grace Community Church.  His character and strong faith were evident to all that knew him.  Rick loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter, a love shared by his daughter, Sara.  They had many adventures together in the mountains of Western Colorado in pursuit of those hobbies.  Rick enjoyed spending time with his children, playing paintball or discussing literature with his son Josh, and four wheeling and hiking with his son Giovanni.

Rick was preceded in death by his father William and his mother Charlotte. Rick is survived by his wife Duber, and his children Josh, Sara (Ft. Collins), and Giovanni (Montrose), and the many members of his adopted family, the Thorp’s.

A celebration of life will be held at Grace Community Church in Montrose at 10am on Saturday the 11th of November.
