Richard (Rick) Wayne Hixson

Richard “Rick” Wayne Hixson, 70, went to be with the Lord on Nov. 7, 2017 at the Hospice Care Center in Grand Junction, Colorado, after a short illness.
Rick was born July 11, 1947 to Carlton and Dorothy (Kenney) Hixson in Durango, Colorado. Rick grew up in Dove Creek, Colorado, and graduated from Dolores County High School. Rick attended Fort Lewis College and the Albuquerque School of Automation where he studied computer science. Rick moved to the Los Angeles area after graduation. While there he met the love of his life Evangeline Prockl. They were married 40 years, making their home in Montrose and Springfield, Missouri. Evangeline passed away in 2014. During his time in Montrose he was a partner at Montrose Tire Company. He also worked for Arrow Gas Company and Western Area Power Authority. He was a member of the Montrose County Sheriff’s Posse. After relocation to Springfield, Missouri, Rick worked as a computer specialist for the Southwestern Power Administration. He retired in 2009.
Rick enjoyed movies, bowling, photography and most any outdoor activity like four-wheeling and hunting. Rick recently relocated back to Montrose and he was finding joy getting reacquainted with old friends and making a lot of new ones on the way. He left us too early but he lived a rich and fulfilling life with the love of many friends and family. He could light up a room with his smile and laugh.
Rick is survived by his brother Steve (Lazola) Hixson of Colorado Springs, Colorado; his sister, Connie LaCriox of Montrose, Colorado; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends from his time in Colorado and Missouri. Richard is preceded in death by his parents Carlton and Dorothy Hixson; his brother Warren Hixson; and his wife Evangeline Hixson.
Memorial Contributions may be sent to HopeWest Hospice at 725 S. Fourth St., Montrose, CO 81401. A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 13, 2017 at the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel with inurnment at a later date at Grand View Cemetery.
