Richard McCloskey, a beloved man known to many as Rick, came into this world on a snowy December 24, 1942, in the bustling city of Denver, Colorado. Sadly, on a quiet September 26, 2024, he departed from this life in the comfort of his home in Montrose, Colorado, with his devoted wife by his side. After bravely facing the challenges brought on by Parkinson's disease, his valiant struggle has ended, and he is now free, his body restored to its former strength.
After graduating from Sheridan Union High School in Denver in 1960, Rick enlisted in the service in October 1962. A year later, in October 1963, he tied the knot with his beloved, Sherry Gosewisch, and she accompanied him overseas until he received an honorable discharge. Following his military service, the couple settled down and expanded their family. Adoption was the only thing on their minds, so in 1967, they were overjoyed to welcome a beautiful baby boy named Ryan. In 1972, they were blessed with a second child, Allison, a lovely baby girl.
With an entrepreneurial spirit, Rick purchased a dump truck to be self-employed. However, he was ahead of his time, as the construction boom did not occur in Colorado until the mid-eighties. As a result, he secured a job at Coors Brewery, driving a semi locally and working in the brewery until he retired at 57 after 35 years at Coors. He devoted himself entirely to his wife and children and was willing to take on any additional jobs to ensure their financial stability. Despite his already busy schedule, he dedicated nine ½ years of service as a volunteer firefighter in Arvada, Colorado, and volunteered as a Jefferson County sheriff for four years.
After the tragic loss of their son in an accident in 1991, he demonstrated remarkable courage as he bravely faced overwhelming pain and grief.
Upon retiring, they decided to construct a cozy cabin nestled in the serene mountains of Cripple Creek, Colorado. They wholeheartedly embraced the uncomplicated mountain lifestyle, reveling in the tranquility and beauty of nature while encountering and admiring a diverse array of wildlife.
They followed suit after their daughter relocated to the Western Slope of Colorado. It was a blessing for the three of them to support and care for one another, knowing God's hands guide them through every step.
Rick experienced deep love, joy and celebration, heartache, and challenges. His unwavering dedication and the immense love he bestowed upon his family will endure for eternity.
Rick was preceded in death by his father, Edward McCloskey; his mother, Leona McCloskey; his son, Ryan McCloskey; his sister, Gayle Tyler; and many other family and friends.
Rick is survived by his bride, Sherry McCloskey, of 60 years, his daughter Allison McCloskey, his brother-in-law, Ernie Tyler, his nieces Audra Tyler “Viar” and Jayna Tyler “Petty,” and several other family and friends.
