Reno Brown
July 31, 1916 ~ May 7, 2014
Reno was a true cowboy. A true cowboy is a honorable man with all the
virtues that every one respects and admires. He’s a man of his word and
when he shakes your hand and looks you in the eye you know things will
be right. He was a hard worker and enjoyed his chores and the people he
worked with. Many a night would find him nursing an animal back to
health, even if was all night. Reno never met a stranger nor did he
have an enemy, except during the war, where he proudly served in the
United States Army. He had a gift of gab and everyone loved his stories
of the good old days and current times. Reno was loved by all.
Born July 31 1916 in Atwood Ks to Harry Allen Brown and Laura Isabol
(McCain) Brown he passed May 7 2014. Reno had five siblings all
deceased, three brothers Earl ,Wayne, Bernard, two sisters Jessie, and
Gertrude (Harold) Fleckenstein. Reno grew up in the Atwood area helping
the family farm and ranch. In those days most of their transportation
was by horse and farming (plowing, etc.) by mule or horse. He broke many
horses to ride and teams to work. As a young boy, late one evening
while working with his dad plowing, Reno fell asleep on one of the
horses and stayed there until the field was done. As Reno matured he
traveled some, working in Texas where he then hitchhiked to Colorado to
meet up with his brother, Earl in Montrose. On the way, he got detained
in Cortez as the mountain passes were closed to weather. While in Cortez
he picked up another ranching job and stayed a few years making his trip
to Montrose a long one. After arriving in Montrose he was introduced to
Henry Case and he went to work for him on the ranch. Reno met and fell
in love with Edna May Talbert and they were married March 15 1944. Reno
went to work on the Harry McClure ranch and he and Edna made their home
in Pleasant Valley, just west of Ridgway Co. While there they were
blessed with a daughter Sharon. Reno retired in 1984 (after 39 years
with McClure) and moved to Montrose on Spring Creek Mesa with Edna May.
Edna May passed November 28 1989. Reno stayed on Spring Creek gardening
and raising hay. Time passed and Reno went to a dance where he met
Frances Conrad. They were married April 9, 1992. They traveled and got
to meet new family all over. Unfortunately Frances passed away after a
long illness on June 15, 2006.
Reno is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Glenn Wiebe.
