RAYMON WILLIAM SNYDER

Raymon (Ray) William Snyder passed away peacefully at home in Traverse City, Michigan on Thursday, June 13, 2019.  He was born on December 6, 1943 in Lamar, Colorado to Fay H. Snyder and Serena M. (Middagh) Snyder.  He spent his early years in Ordway, Colorado; Blair, Nebraska; Memphis, Missouri; and McClave, Colorado. He graduated from McClave High School in 1961.  He received an associate degree from Otero Junior College in LaJunta, CO and graduated from Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO with a degree in Vocational Agriculture.

Ray married Mary E. Goodhue in 1965 in Montrose, CO and they had one daughter Carol J. Snyder.  Ray loved agriculture and enjoyed teaching vocational agriculture for 3 years to students at Lyman High School in Lyman, Nebraska.  The family moved to Montrose in 1969 where Ray began farming, raising hogs, and feeding cattle.  He later started Snyder Farm Supply where he sold irrigation pipe, seed, fertilizer and crop inputs to many farms and ranches in Montrose County and beyond.

Ray enjoyed visiting with family and friends and telling about the history of the “Snyder Family”.  He stayed with two of his uncles in Bible Grove, Missouri during summers growing up and had many fond memories of life happenings there.  His grandfather, Raymon P. Snyder was the first mail carrier in Bible Grove, Scotland County, Missouri using a horse drawn mail wagon that Ray restored and had at his home in Montrose. He always enjoyed going to Missouri and retracing the mail route with his Uncle Fred.

Ray was a member of the First Christian Church in Ordway, Colorado, BPOE Elks Lodge in Montrose, and Montrose County Farm Bureau.

Ray moved to Traverse City, Michigan in October 2018 and later married Robin Rewalt in January 2019.  He is survived by his wife Robin, daughter Carol J. Snyder of Eaton, Colorado, his ex-wife Mary E. Snyder of Montrose, his step daughter Grace Rewalt (Austin Ganote), step grand-daughter Autumn Adair Ganote,  his Aunt Iona Linneman of Rockville, Maryland and numerous cousins.  He was preceded in death by his brother Thomas H. Snyder, and his parents.
