Peggy Walker passed away December 7, 2022, following respiratory health issues. She was born to Lola and George Robinson on August 9, 1940 in Carbondale, Illinois.

Peggy received her BA degree from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale in 1962; MSW degree at Washington University in St. Louis, MO, in 1967; and earned her Doctoral (PhD) degree in Educational Psychological Counseling in 1986 from Southern Illinois University.

Her career encompassed many areas of social work including caseworker for the Illinois Department of Public Aid; Child Welfare Administrator for the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, and Faculty Member at SIU. From 1979 to her retirement, Peggy was the Director of the Children’s Home Society of Florida, Western Division. She was a member and served on numerous board and professional organizations including the National Association of Social Workers, Academic Certified Social Workers, Florida Association for Health & Social Services, and the Children’s Services Interagency Association. Among the many awards she received during her professional career were the YWCA Woman of the year (Florida, 1986), Social Worker of the Year by the NW Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers (1985), and the Southern Illinois Social Worker of the Year (1981).

Peggy is survived by her two children, Edith Nell Slater (Gulf Breeze, FL) and Keith Alan Robinson (Salida, CO); her brothers Philip Robinson (Montrose, CO) and Donald Robinson (Thornton, CO); three grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. She was an active member of the Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church, Gulf Breeze, Fl, before retiring to Colorado. She enjoyed traveling throughout the world, collecting art, and was an avid reader. Private family graveside services will be held December 16 at Grand View Cemetery in Montrose, CO, with Crippin Funeral Home, providing assistance.
