Patric Oren Sutherlin was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on August 17, 1941 to William Jones and Olga Evelyn Sutherlin. The family moved to Colona, Colorado in 1951, where Patric attended school in Ridgway, Colorado. He joined the United States Navy when he was 17 years old. After a few years of service, he married Judith Allen of Montrose, Colorado. A son, William Robert Sutherlin was born in 1963. While in the Navy he was involved in the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts, mostly aboard mine sweeper ships. After 10 years of service the family moved back to Montrose and Patric worked at C&C Auto for R.W. Harmon. After his divorce from Judith he moved to Grand Junction, Colorado; where he and Claire Holtzmeister lived until her passing 2006. He then went to work in the V.A. Hospital kitchen. He retired there after about 30 years. Patric was a soft-spoken gentleman who dedicated his life to helping others.
Patric is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Claire Sutherlin; his sister, Hazel Deltonto; and his niece Elaine Wilson. Surviving family members are his son William “Bill” Sutherlin of Grand Junction, CO; his sisters, Billie Jo (Jody) Brown; Linda Weekley of Montrose, CO; his brothers Arthur “Bud” (Bunny) Sutherlin of Soldatna, AK; Jerry Sutherlin of Montrose, CO; Claire’s children, Lisa Brunell of Grand Junction, CO; Kevin Morlang of Golden, CO; and grandson, Brandon Kible of Grand Junction, CO; and many nieces and nephews in the Montrose area.
Patric loved the outdoors and was a great backyard mechanic. He could fix just about anything and cook up a delicious meal, with just about anything too! His gentle personality and smile will be missed by many, many people.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel at 802 East Main Street, Montrose, CO 81401. Interment will be held at Grand View Cemetery following the service with Military Honors, and conclude at his sister Judy Browns residence on 64.50 Rd. The family gives special thanks to HopeWest Hospice of Grand Junction for the special and gentle care given to our Patric.
