Ora Lee Nelson, age 85, passed away on Friday, July 20, 2018 at Montrose Memorial Hospital. Ora Lee was born on February 22, 1933 in Seminole, Oklahoma to Raymond Curtis and Jewel Frances (Pritchard) Monk. Ora Lee grew up in Hobbs, New Mexico and graduated from Hobbs High School, and attended the College of the Southwest where she learned accounting. She was a tax accountant for more than 50 years. On November 28, 1953 Ora Lee married the love of her life, Loyd H. Nelson, they were married for nearly 59 years, until Loyd’s passing in 2012. Ora Lee was a member of the First Christian Church of Hobbs, New Mexico, and Beta Sigma Phi for 40 years.
Ora Lee enjoyed playing many sports, she started as the youngest player in city softball and didn’t quit until she was the oldest and made it to the All-Star team. She loved crosswords and jigsaw puzzles, and most importantly spending time with her family.
Ora Lee is survived by her daughter, Brenda K. (Brett) Houle of Montrose, CO; her brother, Raymond (Sharon) Monk of Glendale, AZ; her daughter-in-law, Jana Nelson of Austin, TX; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Jewel Monk; her husband Loyd Nelson; her two sons Ray and Loyd Dale Nelson; her sister Myra May Monk; and her brother Thomas M. Monk.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel. Arrangements are under the care of Crippin Funeral Home and Crematory.
