Myrna Kaye (Pettengill) Chuchuru was born February 19, 1945 in Monte Vista, Colorado to L.E. “Jiggs” and Maretta (Watts) Pettengill. She passed away surrounded by family on November 21, 2018.
Her first 10 years were spent on the family farm where numerous cousins, aunts and uncles came to visit. She attended school at Hooper & Center, Colorado until the family moved to Montrose in 1955.
Myrna graduated Montrose County High School in 1963. She married Larry Passmore in 1966. They raised a son, Lindsey, and also Larry’s half-sister Velda Jo when her mother died at a young age. They later divorced.
Myrna spent a lifetime buying, selling and restoring furniture.
She was a caring, loving person who never met a stranger. This helped in her success as a small business owner. She owned Myrna’s Furniture in Delta for several years before retiring but stayed in the business by working at Lily & Rose whenever extra help was needed.
Myrna cherished her family and many friends. She was friends with Bill for 41 years and introduced him to many over the years. She opened her heart and home to anyone down on their luck.
Among Myrna’s many interests were puzzles, playing Yahtzee, spending time in the mountains, dancing to good country music, and her many dogs over the years.
Myrna is survived by son Lindsey (Lisa) Passmore and grandson Shad Passmore all of Silt, CO, granddaughter Delaney Passmore of Providence, RI, daughter Velda Jo (Rob) Bryson of Lake Havasu, AZ, grandson Arthur (Sylvia) Kroschel of Parachute, CO, granddaughter Summer Meyer of Killdeer, ND, several great grandchildren, sisters Ann Saunders, Retta (Ron) Sanchez, brother Steve (Judy) Pettengill, Dana Pettengill all of Montrose, brother Mike (Donna)Pettengill of Fergus Falls, MN, brother in law Dick Fletcher of Farmington, NM and numerous nieces and nephews.
Myrna was preceded in death by her parents, brother Roger and sisters Becki and Sheron.
Myrna was well loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her and by her faithful dog Buddy. A short viewing will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday December 1st at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Delta with services to follow. A private family burial will take place where she will be put to rest in her family’s plot at Valley Lawns in Montrose, looking toward her beloved San Juan’s. Always very charitable herself, in lieu of flowers, Myrna would appreciate your donation to the charity of your choice.
