Maxine Kolz passed away February 14 after a brief illness in Lakewood, CO.

Mickey was born on October 24, 1920 in Rattlesnake Butte, near Walsenburg, Colorado, the fourth of five children of John and Ethel Wright. She graduated from Rye High School and relocated to Western Colorado to be with her family near Durango. It was there that she met Frederick E (Ed) Kolz. Following courtship, Ed Kolz was stationed at Camp Roberts in California preparing to ship to the Pacific theater of World War 2. Mickey took a bus from Pueblo to Paso Robles California where they were married on June 12, 1942.

She gave birth to a daughter, Kay in June of 1944. After Ed’s discharge from the Army, they moved to Silverton, Colorado, where Ed worked for Western Colorado Power Company. Three more children followed; Tom in 1946, Doug in 1949, and Debi in 1954. In 1958 Ed was transferred to Montrose, Colorado, where the couple resided and raised their family.

After her husband’s passing in 2010, Mickey moved to the Denver area to be close to her remaining children. She resided there until her passing. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her son, Tom, three brothers Norman, Harold, and Charles Wright, a sister, Marian Elwell, and four step-siblings.

She is survived by her Stepsister, Eleanor Medill of Pueblo West, children Kay Axtell, Doug Kolz, and Debi Barnes, all of the Denver area, ten grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

A service will be held at the United Methodist Church in Montrose at 4PM on Saturday, February 22. Internment at Valley Lawn to follow.  Arrangements are under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory, Montrose, Colorado
