Mattie Lou Leonard

Mattie Lou Leonard, age 80, of Delta, Colorado died Tuesday morning, February 4, 2014 at Colorow Care Center in Olathe.  Mattie was born July 20, 1933 to George Walter and Margaret (Hester) Young.  As a young child they moved back and forth from California to Colorado. The 2nd move to Colorado was just before her grade school years.  Mattie and Edward married August 26, 1951 in Delta, after their High school graduation.  They moved to Fort Collins after Edward’s discharge from the navy. The next 38 years were spent in Denver and California where she worked as a bank receptionist until they both retired in 1989 and moved to Eckert Colorado. They enjoyed spending the winters in Yuma, Arizona from until 2006. and returning in the summer to Eckert. Following 2006 they made their home in Olathe until Mattie’s time of death.

 Mattie enjoyed the outdoors, going camping and boating each summer while raising their children.  Surviving family members include her husband, Edward Leonard;  his children Cindy Schmalz of Delta, Colorado, Rod Leonard(Linda) of Grand Junction, Colorado and Randy (Tammy) Leonard of Montrose; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  A Private Family Service will be held at a later date.  Arrangements are under the care of Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory, Montrose, Colorado.
