Mary K. Swihart with family at her side, walked into the arms of her Savior on August 26 at age 97.
Mary was born in Goshen, IN June 27, 1921 to Vernon and Mae (Inbody) Sherman. She had three older brothers; Harold, Gerald and Lester, who preceded her in death.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate her life will be held on Saturday October 13, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Montrose Christian Church located at 2351 Sunnyside Road in Montrose, CO. Burial will be at a later date in Goshen, IN.
She married Robert Carl Swihart on October 17, 1942. He passed away on February 17, 1975.
Mary was a homemaker and a co-partner in her husband’s various business adventures. After his death, she busied herself in the community. She volunteered many years for the Montrose Pavilion’s Senior Citizens Meals. She also enjoyed her time in the Arts and Crafts at Montrose Memorial Hospital. Her peanut butter pies were so popular they were usually spoken for, by staff, before their bake sale fund raisers even began. Her daughter, Sherry, often recruited her to help with various projects in her second-grade classroom at Northside Elementary. She also made herself available to anyone who needed a helping hand.
Surviving Family members include her daughters Sherry Jones (Edwin); Vicki Long (Randy); and Judd and wife Ruth. The oldest son Rex and his wife Diana both preceded her in death.
Mary loved her grandchildren: Bob (Laura) and Dan of Little Rock, AR; Glen (Kathy) of Littleton, CO; Mike (Chelsee) of Phelan, CA; Bruce (Megan) of Baltimore, MD; and Paula (Daniel) of the Netherlands. A grandson Darrell preceded her in death.
She also leaves thirteen great grandchildren: Kaylie, Karlee, Jackson, Jeremiah (Wendy), Jacob, Caleb, Lucy, Evy, Emmie, Zipporah, Arrow and Annabelle along with two great-great grandchildren Amber and Ryan.
We children want to thank all of Mom’s extended family and many friends for the wonderful love, caring and warm friendships shown to her throughout the many years. We request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to one of the following: Hope West Hospice, All Points Transit or Montrose Christian Church.
