Marlene (Wick) Haase passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of March 22, 2025. She was born on June 14, 1938 in Cedaredge, CO to Elmer George and Lucille Arlene (Jordan) Wick.
She grew up in Cedaredge, CO and graduated from Cedaredge High School in 1956, where she was a cheerleader, member of Cedaredge Baptist Church, and Delta County Fair Queen. After graduation, she attended McConnell Airline School in Minneapolis, MN, and worked for a time as a flight attendant.
While back in Cedaredge, she renewed a relationship with longtime classmate Carl Haase, who was home on leave from the Navy. She followed him overseas to Japan, where they were married in 1958. Their marriage produced two children – Steve (born in Japan), and Salynda (born in Germany). Their marriage lasted almost 64 years, until Carl's death in 2021.
After their time overseas, they returned stateside to Maryland, and, finally back to their beloved Colorado. Marlene worked in the registrar's offices of Western State College in Gunnison, and Colorado Mountain College in Glenwood Springs. She then moved into a successful career in banking, retiring as Vice President of the Bank of Grand Junction in 2005.
After her retirement, Marlene and Carl spent most of their retirement years in the house they built in Dove Creek, CO. She enjoyed reading, cross country skiing, hiking, baking, nature photography, playing the keyboard and writing poetry. In 2018, they moved to Montrose to be closer to their children.
Marlene is survived by two children (Steve and Salynda), seven grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. A small, private service will be held among the family on Grand Mesa. Crippin Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
