Marilyn (Williams) Boyd 1939 – 2025
Marilyn Boyd, of Olathe CO, passed away on March 15, 2025, at the Valley Manor Nursing Home in Montrose. She was 5 days shy of 86 years.
Marilyn was born March 19, 1939, in Austin CO to Art Williams and Monedith (Crain) Williams. Marilyn and her sisters spent their summers on Grand Mesa, helping their Dad and Mother operate the Barren Lake Boathouse, near Barren Lake (aka Baron Lake) and Eggleston Lake. They served fishermen on those lakes for 42 years.
Marilyn attended Fairview School in her younger years and Delta High School later. In 1958, she married her high school sweetheart, Dewey Boyd. They had two children: Scott and Lynette. The family moved to Greeley in 1962, to Alamosa in 1968, then to Olathe in 1975, where she lived the remainder of her life. Marilyn was a retired educator, who positively impacted the lives of many students as an elementary school teacher in Hooper CO, Olathe Elementary, and then at Oak Grove School near Montrose. One of her greatest joys after retirement was having an adult come up to her in public and say something like, “Mrs. Boyd! You were my teacher, and I just loved you!”
Her favorite activities were doing almost anything with children, being with her dear friends and church family at the Montrose Church of Christ, being in the mountains (especially enjoying the forests and wildflowers), supporting her family in their activities, and doing arts and crafts.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dewey Boyd, and her daughter Lynette Rowland, both of Olathe, and her four sisters: Wilma Jean, Merita, Aileen, and Mary Ann. She is survived by her son Scott of White Oak TX, grandson Cody Boyd of Edmond OK, great-grandchildren Nora and Luke of Edmond, granddaughter Lacy Boyd of Longview TX, granddaughter Emily (Rowland) Goodin of Olathe, and numerous nephews and nieces.
Crippin Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family. Memorial service and interment at the Cory Cemetery will take place at a future date. In lieu of giving flowers, the family requests that you consider supporting the forests and wildflowers she loved by donating to The National Forest, or to any worthy charity of your choosing. She would feel honored.
