Marie was born in Brigham City, Utah.  Moved to  Colorado when she was eight years old, and considered herself a native of Colorado.
Marie and her siblings, Dave (Carol) Courtney, Neva (George) Taylor, and Dennis (Chris) Reece, were raised in the Reece clan of Telluride, Colorado.
She met Jim Penasa in TellurIde and they were married July 2, 1955.  They lived all over western Colorado as Jim was a state trooper.  They raised four children: Sandra McDowell-Montrose; Rose (Lonnie) Oversole-Nathrop, Co; Coleen (Ray) Haigler-Helper  UT; Gino (Amy) Penasa-Frisco, CO.

In 1978 they moved back to Montrose.  Marie worked for the school district as a teacher’s aide.

After they retired, they traveled around the country in an RV.  Marie and Jim really enjoyed this.
Her greatest joy were the 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren that she had.  James, Brian, Crystal, Rachel, Sam, Morgan, Ashley, Blake, Pixie, Ryan, Tyler, Alexis, CJ, and Mia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hazel Kosderka and Bud Courtney; step-father, Fred Reece; grandson Brandon Martinez, and great-grandson Chase Wood.
Marie’s passion was quilting, baking and being a friend to all.

A Memorial Service in celebration of Marie’s life will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Mike Rime officiating.  Inurnment will follow the service at Grand View Cemetery, West of Montrose.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Children’s Hospital of Denver, in memory of Brandon Martinez 13123 East 16th Avenue, Aurora, Co. 80045 or Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, in memory of Marie Penasa, P.O.
