Marie was born in Brigham City, Utah. Moved to Colorado when she was eight years old, and considered herself a native of Colorado.
Marie and her siblings, Dave (Carol) Courtney, Neva (George) Taylor, and Dennis (Chris) Reece, were raised in the Reece clan of Telluride, Colorado.
She met Jim Penasa in TellurIde and they were married July 2, 1955. They lived all over western Colorado as Jim was a state trooper. They raised four children: Sandra McDowell-Montrose; Rose (Lonnie) Oversole-Nathrop, Co; Coleen (Ray) Haigler-Helper UT; Gino (Amy) Penasa-Frisco, CO.
In 1978 they moved back to Montrose. Marie worked for the school district as a teacher’s aide.
After they retired, they traveled around the country in an RV. Marie and Jim really enjoyed this.
Her greatest joy were the 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren that she had. James, Brian, Crystal, Rachel, Sam, Morgan, Ashley, Blake, Pixie, Ryan, Tyler, Alexis, CJ, and Mia.
