Lucille M. Tyrrell Obituary

 

Long time Montrose resident Lucille Mae Tyrrell, age 98, peacefully passed away in hospice care at Valley Manor Care Center on Tuesday, March 15, 2016.

Lucille was a familiar face around Montrose with her daughter Lu Anne Tyrrell at her side, pushing her cart with her little dog Gidget in the basket, greeting friends at Main in Motion and Coffee Trader, admiring flowers at Camelot Gardens and feeding the ducks at Baldridge Park.

Lucille was the only child of parents John B. Hardie and Mary Ann Cummings, born May 27, 1917 in Streator, Illinois. She married Ralph George Tyrrell, a federal employee, on December 11, 1937. Lucille worked as a utility specialist at Rocky Flats, north of Denver, where she retired in 1980; in retirement, she worked at an art gallery in Vancouver, Washington.

Lucille was introduced to Masonic life by her parents; she joined Celestial City Chapter No. 333 in Pekin, Illinois in 1935. In June 2013, she was honored by Silver Star Chapter No. 40 of Montrose and received her 75-year-pin.

She was an avid volunteer and advocate for Justice Animal Welfare Society (JAWS) of Vancouver, Washington, nursing many sick animals back to health. She loved Nature, especially the Colorado mountains, and moved back to the state in the spring of 1998 to live out her final years .

She is survived by her children, George Tyrrell (Betty) of Denver, Colorado, Jon Tyrrell (Sheila) and Lu Anne Tyrrell of Montrose, Colorado; grandchildren Diane Olsen of Vancouver, Washington, Patrick Braddock of Woodinville, Washington, Michael Braddock of Vancouver, Washington, Ashley Tyrrell of Denver, Colorado and six great-grandchildren.

Lucille was preceded in death by her husband Ralph and her daughter, Mary Blumenberg; she will be buried at Chapel Hills Cemetery in Littleton, Colorado next to her beloved husband. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at Camelot Gardens.  Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory, in Montrose is assisting the family.
