Loren Ray Henderson
July 8, 1946 – February 20, 2018
Loren R. Henderson, age 71 of Montrose, passed away February 20, 2018 at his home after a very short battle with cancer. Loren was born to Embert and Marian (Liming) Henderson on July 8, 1946 in Delta, CO. He received his primary education in Delta and graduated from Montrose High School. He attended Mesa State College in Grand Junction and CSU in Fort Collins, CO. Loren married Kathleen Knight in 1966 and they had two children, Amber and Cory. The marriage ended in divorce.
Loren served his country, joining the United States Army in 1966. His tour of duty included Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1972.Loren was a life member of the Montrose Elks Lodge #1053 and the V.F.W. #7184. He served on the Board of Directors of Menoken Water Co. and Project 7 Water Authority. He was active serving veterans and was A Colorado Elks Assn. VAVS Representative.
In 2001 Loren married Kerry McDonald and they began their journey together.
Loren developed a passion for sailing and he a Kerry sailed the British Virgin Islands, giving many of their friends the experience and introducing them to the beauty of the Islands. He also took right to the sport of hot air ballooning that Kerry introduced him to. They chased Simon Sez all over the Southwest to balloon rallies. Together they explored and learned about the early natives of the country.
Golf was Loren’s other pastime. He came to the game late and was a recreational golfer at best, but he did manage to get two holes-in-one in one year. He considered it luck and that everyone hits a good shot now and then.
Loren was a strong individualist who had a special humor that attracted all to him. He was intensely loyal to his family and friends and they to him. He was patient, kind, forgiving and tolerant. He will be very missed by all who knew him. Our world has lost a special light.
