Lois May McCool was born in Denver to Russel and Edith McCool. She passed away at home with family at her side. While growing up her family lived in a number of Colorado towns. At age 18 Lois married Tommy Sodowsky (1947) in Ridgway and stayed to work at Pleasant Valley Ranch. They had 2 children, Kenny and Viki. Tommy passed away in 1967, leaving Lois a single mom and a widow at age 35. Lois worked at Ridgway schools, the Assessor’s office and then Citizen’s State Bank in Ouray while raising her children.
In 1979 Lois married longtime family friend, Ray Hutt a couple of years after the passing of his wife, Shirley. Lois drove the support vehicle for Ray when he plowed the high mountain passes and spend a lot of time hiking the high country and honing her photographic skills. They continued to raise horses and cattle until 1999 when they downsized and moved to Olathe.
In 2012 they retired to Montrose. Lois stayed active in bowling, volunteered at Heirlooms for Hospice for 13 years. Lois loved the arts and enjoyed a variety of crafts. She was a member of the Cattlemen’s Association, Rebecca’s, and the Ridgway Columbine Club, where she has the distinction of having the longest membership of over 60 years!
