Lois Jane Stitt
December 2, 1930 ~ January 22, 2014
Lois Jane Stitt, daughter of Hardin O. and Mamie Long was born December 2, 1930, at Delcarbon, Colorado in Huerfano County, and died January 22, 2014 at Montrose, Colorado. In 1945, her family moved to the North Fork Valley where her father worked as a coal miner at Bowie and Somerset near Paonia, Colorado. Lois graduated from Paonia High School in 1949.
Lois is survived by her husband Dan of 61 years. Their son, Donald and his wife, Martha; Grandchildren, T.J., Candice, and Jason, and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters and one brother. Margaret Ripley of Minnesota, Helen Hasenack of Pueblo, Colorado, Patricia Gore, of Grand Junction, Colorado and James Long of Salida, Colorado. Lois was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters, Virginia, Betty, Maurine and Corrine.
Lois was a member of the Montrose Christian Church, and the Montrose Women’s Club. She took great pride in membership in the order of the Eastern Star. Her home chapter was Silver Star #40 at Montrose, Colorado and a dual member at Paonia Chapter #74 at Paonia, Colorado. Lois and Dan were members of the O.T. Beacon Club for Western Slope Eastern Star Members.
Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service is scheduled for Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Montrose Masonic Lodge, 187 Rose Lane in Montrose. Interment will follow the Lodge Service at Grand View Cemetery, west of Montrose. Arrangements are under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory, Montrose, Colorado.
