Loa Pearl Mooney

February 4, 1939 – October 27, 2023

Loa was born in Black Foot Idaho on February 4, 1939 and grew up in Orem Utah. She attended and graduated from Lincoln High School in Orem. Loa passed away peacefully on October 27, 2023 with her son Gary and grandson Mitchell by her side in Wyoming.

Loa and her husband F.W. Mooney moved from Utah to Grand Junction and shortly after found their forever home in Cedaredge. There they raised their 5 children and ran their small ranch. Loa was extremely proud of running the ranch while her husband worked construction as a welder.

Loa loved spending time in the fields irrigating and watching the cattle. She always said that was her happy and peaceful place. After spending time in the fields, she loved coming back to the house getting her kids up and ready for their morning chores and their mad dashes to the bus. Loa also loved to pass time rock hounding with her husband, knitting, crocheting, sewing, canning, cooking, and spending time with her family. There wasn’t a time that her house wasn’t filled with laughter, and she always said, ‘life is too short not to be happy’. Everyone that met her aways commented that she was happy and had a smile!

She and her husband loved spending their winters in Arizona and came home with fun stories of their adventures. She later talked about the orneriness that her children had and knew quite a bit of it came from her, which she got a kick out of! She spent her last few years enjoying having cattle on the place again and would spend hours on the front porch watching them. She wasn’t able to go out in the fields but would always ask how everything was looking out there, grin and say “okay”.

Loa was preceded in death by her parents Doyl and Lillie Jepperson, Brothers- Robert, Edgar, Devon, Sisters- Thea and Doris, Husband- F.W .Mooney, and her Sons -Shirl and David Mooney.

She is survived by her sister Ilene Harding, Son- Gary Mooney, Daughter- Brenda Rogers (Alan), Son- Russell (Kara) Mooney, 14 Grandchildren, 15 Great Grandchildren, and 1 Great-Great Grandchild.

A graveside funeral service was held on Saturday November 4, 2023 at the Cedaredge Cemetery in Cedaredge, Colorado. Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose is assisting the family. 970-249-2121
