Montrose

Lavon Lucille Campbell, also known as Blondie, passed away on July 22, 2024, at the age of 98. She was born to Alexander and Mary Schierman on June 19, 1926, in Stratton, Colorado, and moved with her family to Montrose, Colorado, in 1934 at the age of eight. She graduated from Montrose High School in 1944. Throughout her life, she worked in the banking world as well as in a family construction business, among other positions. Passionate about music and dancing, she gained the nickname "Blondie" from her high school music teacher. Lavon loved playing the Saxophone and Accordion as she continued to play the accordion with a family band at dances in the Montrose area.

Lavon met her husband, Donald E. Campbell "Bud," in high school, and they married in 1947, enjoying 51 years of marriage together. Lavon took pride in her agricultural background and had a hobby of raising sheep well into her 90s, alongside her goat, Evie.

Lavon was actively involved in various community organizations, including The Montrose Emblem Club where she held several offices, including the position of state president from 1987-88. She also served as a supreme officer for the National Organization. In addition, she was intricately involved with the Golden Circle Senior Board for 20 years, organizing dances and activities at the Montrose Pavilion. Furthermore, she served on the Montrose Suburban Water Board for 30 years and was a part of the bowling association for 40 years.

One of her proudest moments came in 1985 when she was recognized as the FFA mother of the year as her son, Tom Campbell, served as the president of the Montrose FFA chapter. Lavon cherished her involvement with her grandchildren as they participated in 4-H, FFA, Girl Scouts, and sports. She was a mother of 2, grandmother of 4, great-grandmother of 10, and great-great-grandmother of 2, cherishing the time she spent with all of them.

Among some of her other hobbies were collecting: Precious Moments, Coins, Porcelain Dolls, lamb memorabilia, bluebirds, Christmas decor, and shoes.

Lavon is preceded in death by her parents Alexander and Mary Scheirman, her one brother Leroy “Buzz” Scheirman, and her husband Donald E. Campbell. She is survived by her daughter: Janet (husband Jerry) Sieverson; son Tom (wife Geriann) Campbell; grandchildren: Tammy, Jamie, Chantel, and Tyler; great-grandchildren: Kelsey, Makayla, Layton, Hailey, Hayden, Gage, Azariah, Addison, Caroline, and Jackyln; great great- grandchildren: Emma and Luke.
