Laurie Wenzel was born in Montrose, Colorado, on Aug. 19, 1964, to Lloyd and Sharon Wenzel. It was a special birthday present to her dad, as it is his birthday also. Laurie lost her battle with cancer on Nov. 19. She was 59 years old.
Laurie graduated from Campion Academy in Loveland, Colorado, and continued her education in several colleges. She graduated from University of Northern Colorado with a master’s degree in nutrition, along with a minor in music education. Laurie was always involved with music, teaching and performing.
She directed the Ouray Community Chorus and played flute in the Montrose City band. She provided music for the Hillcrest Congregational church and was always involved with music in her home church, the Montrose Seventh-day Adventist church.
She leaves to mourn her parents, Lloyd and Sharon Wenzel; a sister, Linda West, of Houston, Texas, and a brother, Dr. Steven Wenzel, of Redlands, California.
She will be missed by her family and her many friends in the community. There will be a musical memorial service at the Montrose Seventh-day Adventist church at 2 p.m. Jan. 6, 2024.
The family would like to express our gratitude to Hope West for guiding us through this difficult time and to Valley Manor Care Center for the excellent care that Laurie received there. Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family.
