Laura Mae (Riker) McBurney

Laura Mae (Riker) McBurney, born June 6, 1914, completed her earthly journey October 10, 2017. She married Edward Francis McBurney in 1931. They had three daughters and two sons.
During WWII, she and Edward upholstered the insides of B29’s. After the war, Laura and Edward continued to do upholstery work in their own business which expanded into her forte of creating fabric window coverings of all shapes, styles and sizes as well as custom slip covers. She loved the challenge of being able to create a window covering design from a picture chosen by a decorator. Another accomplishment that she relished was making stage curtains for some of the hotels in Las Vegas. When not sewing window coverings, etc. she was crocheting or doing stitchery such as cross stitch and crewel. Later in life, she took up doing puzzles, the intricate challenging kind.
Laura was preceded in death by her son, Robert Francis McBurney and her husband, Edward Francis McBurney. She is survived by her children; Leona Ann (Richard) MacLagan of Bethlehem, GA., Edward Riker (Alice) McBurney of Montrose, CO., William Harvey (Judy) McBurney of Page, AZ., and Laura Alice McBurney of Montrose, CO.; seven grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Her family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of Heidi’s chateau for the compassionate care they provided Laura during the final weeks of her life. A special “Thank-you” to the HopeWest Hospice Team for the amazing care and support they provided, especially Jim Courson, Amiessa Jutten, Andrea Thompson and Vonnie Dalton. Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory in Montrose is assisting the family.
