Larry Stevens passed away on August 25, 2015, at the age of 68.  He was born in Ouray, Colorado, to parents originally from California, Richard C., and Mary Elizabeth “Bettie” Stevens, who lived in Ouray from 1943 to 1953.  In 1953, the family moved to Telluride where Larry’s dad became the Idarado Mine Mill Superintendent.

Larry was educated in the Telluride School system and worked at the Mill for Idarado as a chemist during his college years and returned in 1971 to become the Chief Assayor for Idarado, a position held for over 20 years.  Larry then worked for the Town of Mountain Village in the transportation department for 10 years.  He attended college at Western State College, where he received a degree in Math and chemistry.  He was then drafted into the United States Army and did his tour of duty at Ft. Lewis, Washington, and the Pentagon in Washington, DC.  He subsequently returned to Telluride and lived the rest of his life.  He was active in the Telluride Fire Department, American Legion, and a 40+ year member of the Elk’s Club.

Larry leaves behind a loving family and many, many friends with fond memories of his life.  Brother Richard Stevens and his wife Debbie live in Montrose, Colorado, and brother Johnnie Stevens and his wife Dorothy live in Telluride, Colorado.  Larry’s family, which includes his brother Dick’s children and grandchildren and Johnnie’s step children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, will have a celebration of his life at a time and place to be announced.  A memorial fund has been established in his memory with The Colorado Cancer Research Institute, 55 Broadway, Suite 1802, New York, NY 10006.  Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory, Montrose Colorado is assisting the family.
