Kermit R. Moots, age 77, of Olathe, CO. passed away March 8, 2018 at Hospice Care Center in Grand Junction, Co. Kermit was born March 30, 1940 to Pearl R. and Hulda (Bowen) Moots in Hotchkiss, CO. He spent his childhood and received his education in Hotchkiss, with the guidance of his grandparents Maud and John Bowen. At the age of 15, Kermit began working as a miner, starting a habit of hard work which he maintained his whole life, and instilled and shared with his children and grandchildren.
Kermit married the love of his life, Rosetta on September 17, 1963 in Creede, Colorado. Following their marriage, they travelled all over the west coast while Kermit was employed with the mines and moved frequently, following the mines and shaping their family. Eventually they settled in Montrose County, where the work changed from mining to sheep ranching which allowed them to mold their descendants from a hand’s on position. Kermit was a geologist at heart and loved mother nature. He was an avid rock hound, hunter and fisherman. Those who knew him will surely feel his presence in the woods and mountains for the rest of their lives. He will be greatly missed by all of those that were blessed enough to know him.
Kermit is survived by his loving wife, Rosetta Moots, his sister Sharon Perrone; sons Dean Moots and Jim Stowe and nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pearl Moots and Hulda Bowen, his brothers, Kenneth and Keith Moots, his granddaughter Desarae Jones and great-grandson, Bentley Poindexter.
A Visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday March 14, 2018 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel. A Graveside Service to honor Kermit will be held Thursday, March 15, 2018 at the Olathe Cemetery at 2:00 pm. Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory in Montrose is assisting the family.
