Kenneth Rex Ray

July 7, 1937 — June 16, 2015

Kenneth Rex Ray, 77, passed away peacefully with a smile on his face at home on June 16, 2015. He was born July 7, 1937, in Riverton, Louisiana, to his father Roy Oscar Ray and mother Freddie (Reitzell) Ray. Ken served in the US Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged. Ken is survived and loved by two sisters, his son and daughter and their families, two grandchildren and their families, three great grandchildren, and several wonderful adopted and foster grandchildren.

Ken was married to his best friend, Betty L. Southwick, whom he met at the age of 8. They were married on this earth for 54 years until Betty’s passing in 2013. Ken loved to spend time in his garden and shared all that he produced with his family and friends.

Ken was an active member of the Mount Sneffels Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was active in the scouting program throughout his life, mentored many young men, and helped many achieve their goal of serving a church mission.

Ken was known for making sure the widows of the community always had someone they could call on to help with any task. His neighbors called on him for his handyman services, and he was always ready to help friends and family. His life was truly a life of service.

The funeral for Kenneth R. Ray will be at the south Montrose Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, at 9 a.m. Monday, June 29, 2015. A viewing will start at 8am. A brief graveside service will take place immediately after the funeral. Ken wanted everyone to remember him as he was in life. In honor of this, please wear colorful attire and join us in a celebration of his life, and not a mourning of his passing.  Arrangements are under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home Crematory, Montrose.
