Barry Keith Kenimer, MD, age 76, passed away in the comforts of his own home on September 5, 2017 with his wife and family around him. Keith was born July 2, 1941 to Lafayette and Zelma (Holcomb) Kenimer in Cornelia, GA. Keith graduated from the University of Georgia and then the Medical College of Georgia where he earned the Doctor of Medicine Degree. Keith spent several years serving his country in the United States Army, and retired as a Major in 1974. On December 16, 1967 Keith married the love of his life, Donna (Dee) Brown in Chattanooga, TN. They were married nearly 50 years. Keith and his family moved to Montrose, Colorado in 1975 where he worked for many years as the first anesthesiologist at Montrose Memorial Hospital. Keith and Donna founded Skyfire Ranch, located just east of Montrose, in 1977, where four generations of his family still live today. Keith and Donna were instrumental in found-ing what would become Trinity Reformed Presbyterian Church in 1978 and also what would later become Colorado West Christian School the same year. From 1985 until he retired in 2000, Keith worked as an obstetrical anesthesiologist at St. Johns Mercy and Missouri Baptist hospitals in St. Louis, Missouri. Keith was also an accomplished cattleman and loved ranching, camping, fishing, hunting, hand loading ammu-nition, jeeping, and mountain climbing—summiting fourteeners well into his 70’s. Keith was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Delta, CO.
Keith is survived by his wife Dee Kenimer of Montrose, CO; his son Barry (Allison) Kenimer of Montrose, CO; two daughters, Courtney (Jeff) Kenimer Keane of St. Louis, MO; Hansen (Matt) Whitworth of Montrose, CO; two sisters, Josephine Nixon of Spartanburg, SC; Elizabeth Leibach of Augusta, GA; 11 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Keith was preceded in death by his parents Lafayette and Zelma Kenimer, and his son Karl Need-ham Kenimer.
Keith’s funeral service was held on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Delta, CO, followed by a burial service at the Skyfire Ranch Cemetery in Montrose, CO.
