Katherine Tertipes of Montrose died Oct. 28 at Montrose Memorial Hospital of complications from a broken hip. She had just celebrated her 100th birthday on September 30th, when she received a Centennial Plaque from the Governor, presented by the Montrose Mayor and City Council.
Katherine was born in Spencer, Iowa on September 30, 1915. She married Angelus Tertipes, October 19,1942 and they moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where they lived until coming to Montrose in 1997 to be near family.
Katherine was a vibrant, vivacious lady, who enjoyed board and card games and excelled at Trivia. She was a great fan of Talking Books from the Colorado Talking Book Library and enjoyed biographies, non-fiction, and learning about new things. A member of the Montrose United Methodist Church, she also enjoyed music and theatre and was a supporter and frequent visitor to the Magic Circle Theatre, where her grandson Cody Davis was in many plays.
Katherine was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Carrie Coon, sisters, Maye Williams and Hazelle McQuirk, a daughter, Nancy Davis of Montrose, and her husband of more than 50 years, Angelus Tertipes.
Katherine is survived by a daughter, Jane Bennett, living in Canberra, Australia, two grandsons, Cody Davis of Chicago, Illinois, and Evan Davis of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and a niece, Donna Bunkers, of Dell Rapids, South Dakota.

Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory, in Montrose, is assisting the family. Services will take place at a future date in Montrose.
