JUDITH ANN DOME

Judith passed away peacefully in her home on July 14, 2015. Judith was born November 17, 1944 in Boulder, CO to Gerald L. Dome and Betty J. Dome. Her family moved to Montrose, CO in 1950 where she attended elementary school. She attended Mount St. Gertrude Academy in Boulder CO for part of her Jr. High and High School education which she graduated from in 1962. She attended two years at Loretto Heights College in Denver and transferred to the University of Denver which she graduated from in 1966 with a B.A. in psychology, humanities and the Enneagram.

After college in 1966-1967 she taught American History at Limon Jr. Sr. High School in Limon CO. She then traveled to Ecuador and taught as a substitute teacher at the Cotopaxi Academy in Quito. Judith then moved to Montreal, Canada and taught at the James Lyng High School for 2 years. She traveled to London England and substituted at the American School for London from 1971 to 1972. She decided to extensively travel around the world and started her venture in Europe, Central America and South America experiencing multi cultures in over 50 different countries.

Judith returned to Colorado and became one of the first women to join the sales force at Federal Envelope and became a District Sales Representative for Dennison Eastman Corporation from 1974 to 1983. In 1983 she returned to a teaching career with Denver Public Schools. She taught at Skinner Middle School for 7 years, Montbello High School 10 years, a year at North High School, 2 years at MLK and also at Hill Middle School. She retired in 2011 returning to Montrose, CO to care for her father until his death in 2012.

Throughout her career she participated in numerous non-profit organizations, Western Colorado Congress, 1st Community Shares, Food Bank of the Rockies, and many other community based projects in Colorado. Judith was an adventurer, traveler and teacher with great insight and extensive cultural experiences she shared with others. An avid gardener with an incredible garden of flowers cultivated over 30 years. She was a lover of nature and all animals.

We cannot find words to express our great love for and loss of our sister, aunt and friend. She was loving, generous and very special to all who loved her. We have been blessed to have known her and she will be missed so much by us. Those that survive her are her sisters, Nancy G. Fischer of Spokane, WA; Carol Dome LaDucer and husband Jack of Winters, CA; and Coni Hommerding and husband Mike of Lady Lake, FL; along with her nephew Erik L. Fischer and wife Rebekah of Parker, CO; nieces Kristin Black and husband Vance of Spokane, WA; Sarah Alderman and husband Buck of Coeur d’Alene, ID and Rachel Zimick of Seattle, WA. Judith was also a great aunt to Riley and McKenzie Fischer of Parker, CO. She was preceded in death by her parents Gerald and Betty Dome of Montrose, CO.

Donations can be made to The Food Bank of the Rockies or the Max Fund Organization of Denver in Judith Dome’s name. Donations can also be sent to Shared Ministries in Montrose CO, also in her name through Crippin Funeral Home.

Viewing in Denver will be on Tuesday July 21st from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at the chapel of Horan & McConaty at 1091 S Colorado Blvd, Denver, CO. The Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, July 22nd at St. Francis de Sales Parish, 300 S Sherman St, Denver CO; reception to follow.

Her interment will be in Montrose, CO. There will be a viewing at Crippin Funeral Home on Friday July 24th from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at 802 E Main St. The Rosary will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1855 St Marys Dr, Montrose at 2:00 PM.
