Juan Virgel Maestas

July 4, 1948 — April 12, 2019

Juan Virgel Maestas, of Delta, Colorado was born in Alamosa Colorado on July 4th, 1948 to the parents of Procopio Maestas and Henrietta Cardenas Maestas and left in Death to Eternal Life on April 12th, 2019. Juan was 70 years old and was diagnosed with Leukemia Bone Marrow Cancer less than a year ago.

Juan V. Maestas, The Wolfman, married Roseann Finn on November 27th, 1965. She was his soulmate for 53 years, whom he loved very much as she was his little Butter Cup.  Juan grew up in Olathe Colorado, where they met.  The happy couple resided in different areas including Delta, Nebraska, Montrose, Arvada and even spending some time in California. He loved his home state of Colorado and decided to live his final years where he grew up.

Juan V. Maestas was a man of many talents. He had a larger than life personality, a great sense of humor and loved to make his wife laugh since he loved the sound of her laughter. Juan was honorably discharged from the Navy and his occupations ranged throughout the years. Juan started his Police Officer career in Nebraska and came back to Colorado as a Deputy Sherriff in Greely and in Pueblo. He was Chief of Police, a City Councilman, a Personnel Manager, a Coal Miner and is best known for being a top Car Salesman at several dealerships in the area. This is where his Wolfman nickname originated as he would howl after each sale.  During his retirement years, Juan enjoyed playing Bingo, was a member of the American Legion and often called Bingo, too. He enjoyed going to Bronco games, watching his favorite team and spending time with his beloved wife and family, especially his Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.

Juan was preceded in death by his Parents, his older sister Mary Jane, who passed as an infant and his 3 older brothers, Dave, Leroy and Chuck Maestas.  He is survived by his loving wife Roseann, daughter Mary Jane, daughter Lisa Marie and son, Juan Joseph.  Juan V. Maestas had beautiful Grandchildren including, Serena, Raevyn, Jobie, Makenna, Brookelynn, Kali Mae, Chandler, Julian and has another Grandson, who will be born in May. Juan also has 2 Great-Grandchildren named Sophia and Calvin.

This is a great loss for our family and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. We appreciate the outpouring of love shown to him during his hospitalization by his loving family and friends. We will never forget how his eyes lit up when he was able to see how many people were there to see him. We would like to take this time to thank his Doctors and nursing staff in Delta and Grand Junction and a big thanks to Rose Hill Hospitality House and St. Mary’s Hospital for treating our Juan with dignity and respect in his final days and for being so wonderful and caring to our entire family.

His wishes were to be cremated and his celebration of life will be at the Crippin Funeral Home in Montrose, Colorado on Friday, April 19th at 2:00 pm.  Flowers and Donations are being accepted c/o Roseann A. Maestas and can be sent directly to Crippin Funeral Home, 802 E. Main Street, Montrose Colorado, 81401.
