Joyce Phillips, of Montrose, Colorado, died on Saturday, April 23 at San Juan Living Center following an extended illness. She was 76. Joyce was born on March 2, 1940 in Anderson, Indiana to Glenn Westerfield and Pauline Revell. In 1958, she graduated from Madison Heights High School in Anderson, Indiana and later that year married John H. Phillips on November 15.
John and Joyce moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1969. Joyce worked as an office manager at Jolly Plumbing and was an active member of Highland Park Baptist Church. She loved to serve God by helping lead the youth group. Upon their retirement in 1996, John and Joyce became full-time “RV-ers” and began to travel the states. In 2015 they moved to Montrose, Colorado to be closer to family.
As a kind-hearted and generous woman, Joyce had the spiritual gift of hospitality which gave her the amazing ability to make anyone feel like part of the family. She loved to spend time with loved ones during camping trips, four-wheeling excursions, dirt bike outings, or just sitting around the campfire. Her sweet smile, giving spirit, and loving nature will be greatly missed.
Joyce is survived by her husband, John Phillips, of Montrose, Colorado; two sons Jeff (and Kim) Phillips and Joe (Monica) Phillips both of Montrose Colorado; and four grandchildren (Jacob, Hailee, Kara, and Justin Phillips). She was preceded in death by her eldest son John, brother Larry, and her parents.
A memorial service organized by Crippin Funeral Home will be held at the Rosemont Baptist Church in Montrose, Colorado on May 6, 2016 at 2:00 PM. Service will conclude at the church. Inurnment of the ashes has previously taken place at Grand View Cemetery in Montrose, Colorado.
