Joseph Frank Casias Jr.

Joseph Frank Casias Jr, was born April 16, 1924 to Frank and Margaret Casias in Sopris, Colorado. He was the eldest of eight children. He attended elementary school in Sopris and Trinidad, Colorado. The family then moved to Denver, Colorado following the death of his father in a mine accident. In Denver he graduated from West High School. After joining the Army, serving under General Patton in the European Theater of Operation during WWII. After a year, he was wounded and was first in a field hospital and then transported to the states to Fitzsimmons Hospital in Denver where he spent many months. Later he attended Denver University and Barnes Business College where he met his wife, Ramona. Upon graduation, he followed Ramona back to her hometown of Montrose, Colorado where they were wed in January 1950. Frank was employed by Farmer’s Union, later becoming manager. Next he worked for Western Colorado Power Company where he was a service representative. His final job was helping his nephew operate a Native American art shop, Nava Southwest, in Ouray, Colorado.
Frank was a member of the E.L.K.S Club, the V.F.W., St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and the Knights of Columbus. Frank is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Ramona G. Casias, and was blessed to have many loving nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his beloved pet boxer, Topaz VIII.
There will be a Memorial Mass held for Frank on January 23, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home.
