John Robert “Bob” Hampton
September 21, 1938 ~ December 18, 2017

John R. “Bob” Hampton, age 79, passed away on Monday, December 18, 2017 in the comforts of his home, in Montrose, Colorado. Bob was born September 21, 1938, in Davidsburg, Michigan. Bob spent most of his childhood in Montrose, Colorado and graduated high school at Aurora Central High School, in Aurora, Colorado. From 1956 to 1960, Bob had the honor to serve his country in the United States Army.
December 1, 1962, Bob married the love of his life, Gail Ramer in Commerce City, Colorado. They celebrated 55 years of marital bliss. Bob was involved in the Montrose Area Wood Turners making Eagle Head Canes for our local veterans. He was also involved in the Montrose Warrior Recourse Center, the Botanical Society, the ELKS Lodge, and Christ Church of the Valley. Bob worked for the Bureau of Reclamation as an Electronic Tech, and was also the Recording Secretary for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Bob loved wood working, golf, camping, running, cross country skiing, box car racing with grandkids, and flying radio control airplanes. He had also coached little league baseball, Pop Warner football, and the women’s church softball team.
Bob is survived by his loving wife Gail Hampton of Montrose, CO; his son Dan (Lisa Fluke) Hampton of Westminster, CO; daughter Bonnie (Don) Walker of Fruita, CO; grandsons, Garrett and William Walker of Fruita, CO; three sisters, Gladys Carroll of Villa Grove, CO; Raetta Leiker of Montrose, CO; Debbie Atchley of Montrose, CO. Bob is preceded in death by his parents Sylvia and Ray Hampton.
In Lieu of flowers, please send Memorial Contributions to HopeWest Hospice at 725 South 4th Street, Montrose, CO 81401. A Funeral Service will be on Friday, December 22, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Church of the Valley. Burial will follow at Grand View Cemetery with Military Honors. Arrangements are under the care of Crippin Funeral Home and Grand View Cemetery.
