Jim Bass

August 31, 1938 – May 7, 2015

Jim Bass, formerly of Bassackwards Ranch in Bostwick Park, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on May 7th after a long illness. Jim was 76 years old.  He was the 7th of 8 children born in 1938 on a family tobacco farm in N. Carolina in a home that was built in 1802. After receiving his masters degree and working as a mechanical engineer in aerospace in Orange County, CA, he longed to return to the land.  Jim and Diane purchased their beloved Bassackwards Ranch in 1977 but health required that they sell in 2014 and ‘retire’ to Eagle Heights on Spring Creek, in Montrose.

Jim will be fondly remembered by family and friends for his love of jokes and family. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Diane Bass; his two children Cliff Bass of Orange County, CA, and Christina Bass of Montrose; his 5 grandchildren, Tyler, John, CJ, Hannah and Jayden; and his great granddaughter Aubrey.  A celebration of his life will be held for family and friends on Saturday, May 16th from 1:00 to 4:00 at his home in Eagle Heights.  Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory, Montrose, Co., is assisting the family.
