Jeffrey Lynn Emert, age 73, passed away at his home on January 1, 2016. Jeffrey was better known to his family and friends as “Jeff”, a resident of Montrose, Colorado since 2007 had returned after being gone for 30 years. Jeffrey, the son of Pastor Harold Jr. (Dutch) Emert and Mary Jane (Crist) Emert.
Jeff was born on December 21, 1942 in the home of his grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Harold Sr. and Helen Emert in Ralphton, Pennsylvania. As a child, Jeff’s father served in U.S. Army, and remained in Pennsylvania until he was transferred to Kobe, Japan. Jeff was eight years old when they moved to Kobe, Japan in 1950. They lived in Japan for almost a year.
As time passed, Jeff’s father retired from the Army and became a pastor and eventually they moved to Avon, Montana where Jeff went to high school and graduated from Powell County High School in 1961 in Deer Lodge, Montana. At the age of 25, Jeff joined the Army National Guard and did his training at Fort Ord, California in 1965. Jeff was previously married and had a son and a daughter.
Thru his lifetime he lived in many places. The main two states he resided in the most was Colorado and California and worked as a security officer at a Xerox Company and a bank.
In November 1986, Jeff was working at Southland Mall as a security officer and there he met his wife Sherry, who was working in one of the retail stores. Eventually their relationship blossomed. After four years of living in Hayward, California, they moved to Paso Robbs, California where Jeff was working on the Camp Roberts Base. Then six months later, Jeff and Sherry moved to Anchorage, Alaska in 1990 and Jeff worked as a security officer at the Anchorage Airport and various other places. After settling down in Anchorage, the two were married at Hillcrest Nazarene Church in Anchorage. In December 1991, Jeff retired from the Army National Guard after 24 years, due to health issues. Jeff and Sherry were together for 30 years and married for almost 25 years.
In 2007, Jeff, Sherry and their beloved dog Bo-Bo moved to Montrose, to be closer to his parents and family. Jeff had many interests. He had a great passion for cars and motorcycles. He really enjoyed repairing, building and selling bicycles. He became well known as the “Bike Man” in Montrose. Jeff’s devotion and his love for the military carried thru his life. Jeff was very active in all the military functions in Montrose with his father and his best beloved dog, Bo-Bo. Jeff was very proud of serving in the military as did his father. He was also active at the Warrior Resource Center and “Welcome Home Montrose. Jeff loved going to Thursday morning coffee and taking Bo-Bo. In the summertime he enjoyed “Main in Motion” with his buddy along. Jeff attended First Church of the Nazarene where he was active in his duties as a solider posting the flags the Sunday before Veterans Day. Jeff will be missed by all his fellow veterans and sharing their laughter. Jeff was a jokester and it made him proud to be able to make someone laugh and smile. He will be truly missed by his family, friends and his beloved wife of 30 years.
Surviving family member include his wife, Sherry, his son Bruce Emert of San Leandro, California; daughter Janice Emert of Springfield Missouri; his sister Faith Stoy and her husband Ken, niece Jessica (Stoy) Kastendieck and her husband Jason, all of Montrose; three great nieces and two great nephews; two stepdaughters Lanette Marshall of Knightsen, California and Diana Krieger of Redwood City, California and nine step grandchildren and four step-great children. Jeff is preceded in death by his brother Greg Emert, his parents, and his beloved Bo-Bo.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 13, 2016 at 10:00 am at the First Church of the Nazarene, 705 S. 12th Street, followed by a graveside inurnment with Military Honors at Grand View Cemetery.
