J.C. "Sonny" Eatherton

J.C. (Sonny) Eatherton passed away on July 6, 2024 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado. His passing is the result of open-heart surgery, resulting in a stroke, fall, and brain-bleed.

Sonny was born to Jack and Lydia Eatherton on July 15, 1942 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He grew up in East Texas. He graduated from Wilmer Hutchins High School, Dallas Texas, attended Tyler Junior College, followed by service in the U.S. Air Force for nine years. Following the Air Force, Sonny worked in various trades, retiring in 2006. He was an active member of the Celebration Church, Montrose, and the V.F.W. in Meeker. Sonny loved hunting, fishing, woodworking, and winemaking.

Sonny is survived by his spouse, Sally. They were the love of each other’s lives for 60 years. Also left to cherish his memory are his two sons Clint (Lynn), Chris (Tracey), five grandchildren: Zachary (Ashlee), Tyler, Cody, Logan, Caden; 2 great-grandchildren: Brecken and Mesa Jane; and his sisters (Patsy Murphy and Rita Allgood), several cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister. Sonny will be remembered and missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him because of his caring and loving ways, and great sense of humor.

A memorial service/celebration of life will be held at Celebration Church, 2900 Sunnyside Rd., Montrose, Colorado (SE corner of Sunnyside and 6700 Rd.) on August 3, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be contributed to the Wounded Warrior Project, Donor Care Center, P.O. Box 758541, Topeka KS 66675-8541.
